Social behavior LAb
Available spaces: 12
Cost:
40.000 COP
In this dynamic, real-world learning experience, students work in small teams to investigate how different conditions influence human behavior in public spaces. Each group selects one of ten “social mysteries” and designs a simple field experiment—testing how people respond to specific situations and collecting real data to analyze their findings. Through creating and observing live reactions—such as whether people help a stranger—students uncover patterns in human behavior, compare results to their predictions, and present their discoveries, developing critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of social forces.

Description
Students step into the role of social scientists to explore how everyday situations influence human behavior. Working in small teams, they choose from a set of intriguing “social mysteries” and begin by forming predictions about how people might respond in different public settings. This inquiry-based approach encourages curiosity while introducing students to the core ideas behind behavioral research.
Each team then designs and carries out their own field experiments, testing how people react to carefully designed situations in natural environments such as a park or shopping center. By observing real-time reactions—such as whether people follow a crowd or help a stranger—students gather meaningful data and begin to identify patterns in human behavior.
After collecting their data, teams analyze their results, compare findings to their original predictions, and present their conclusions to the group. Through discussion and reflection, students consider how context, environment, and social cues shape behavior. Through this experience, they develop real-world skills and profound insight into the social forces that influence how people act in everyday life.
